Sestrel Moore compensation magnet assembly?

This really is a long shot but can anyone suggest where I might find, new or S/H, the little compensator assembly for the Sestrel Moore compass I recently purchased from FleaBay?

I deliberately sought this model as the largest, clearest, compass I could find. With my dodgy eyesight steering to a compass was simply a non-starter, having fitted this I am pleased that I can see it. Sadly, it was only after fitting it that I realised the magnetic adjustment assembly was missing.

I have contacted SIRS in Kent without luck, they no longer hold any spares.

At a push, does anyone have a close up photo and/or dimensions they would be prepared to email to me, just in case it were possible to make something from scratch, assuming I could find suitable bar magnets.

I know I am pushing my luck this time but nothing ventured as they say.

Cheers all.

Steve

Wishing you success in your search, but are you sure that the compass actually needs correction?
This is assuming it's mounted in a GRP boat, as suggested by your profile.

Ah, there is the rub. You may have a point. I removed a Ritchie flush mounted compass from the dash for two reasons. One was that being visually impaired I had real problems seeing it from the helm and had to slide off the seat and stand to peer over the wheel to look at it. The other reason was that I could not correct it to read true on all points of sailing.

After removing it, and buying the Sestrel Moore, I realised that the two speakers mounted on the dash, port and stbd, below the forward windows were affecting it. I promptly removed the speakers, and I hope, a major source of error. (The speakers were fitted by previous owner, honestly).

The SM compass sits on a raised gimbal so is slightly further from the wireing within the dash, but I have powered up everything, including the engine and can see no movement of the compass. The boat it tied up at her berth and I have not yet attempted to swing the compass, but the static position agrees with a hand bearing compass. So you may well be right, it may work fine without compensation, it's just that I am not generally that lucky :)

The magnets fit in small tubes in the compass base. All you need to do is to get some small tubes (small bore plastic plumbing perhaps) and epoxy the four of them into position on the base, one on each side. The magnets are then slipped in and the ends sealed. A little silicone will do that. I am assuming you have the gimbal stand for the compass and not just the compass head!!!

Thank you. I think I may have located the four magnets, hopefully in tubes but no base plate. The compass is complete apart from the compensator.
I gather the tubes can be rotated and adjusted linearly to correct/compensate. I really have not got a clue how they work and have never played with a complete Sestrel Moore so am stabbing in the dark here.

As I recall, the magnets simply sit in the tubes. There is no adjustment other than fitting different magnets. The plastic ends are simply to keep the magnets in place.

That's interesting and is confirmed by a helpful chap I emailled following suggestions earlier in this thread. Once again, thank you for all the replies.
