My boat has a Volvo 2001 and a Volvo rubber packing box with no external greaser. I believe it should be re-packed every year. What grease? Is it simply a matter of releasing the jubilee clip and pushing in grease? Does anybody have the official servicing instructions? Any advice greatfully recieved.

If it is the same Volvo Penta seal as I have on my Konsort, with a clamp on the stern tube and no other clips, the only servicing to be done is to inject some molyslip type grease under the lip on the inside of the shaft tube before launching. When launched, squeeze the seal until a drop of water comes out. This way, water cooling is at the back-side of the seal.

If you want, I can email you a drawing of the seal and instructions.

regards,
Philip

Volvo Penta agents sell grease in little foil sachets; you cut the corner off, slip the open end of the sachet under the seal and squeeze grease in. Don't undo the jubilee clip! The Volvo seal lasts for about 8-10 years in average use. It's a good piece of kit.
