Tell me who does your servicing and where are you based. Just had my leg serviced with all the bits and it was over £300 with the labour being £250 and I thought that was good. As for your lift in and out for less than £50 - what size is your boat.

A lovely boat - top of my shopping list. Based on your cost then labour is about £17.25 an hour. I'm paying £25+ but then I am in the Solent. My lift was £83 each way and my boat is a Fairline Sprint - 6.5 m's with 5ltr V8 with duo props.
You really are getting a bargin at that price.

Blimey don`t rub it in with those prices, you will have the thames/solent bunch foaming at the wallet.Still if they have no problem with finding £500+ quid just to get on the waiting list for a marina berth (non refundable) .........

Re: Trim tabs

Sounds good to me but why do you want them in the first place? (That's not to say that you don't need them, just curious as to what prompted your decision).

I'm also thinking about getting some but opinions are divided as to whether there will be any benefit.

Re: Trim tabs

Got that heavy dinghy on the back so would like some xtra lift. She doesnt lean much in wind and tide but as I have so much extra weight on board I thought it could help.

My old boat had them and in rough conditions I could keep speed and a smoother ride. Just thought I could make things better seeing as I am going out more and more in rough conditions and hoped they will help. Plus a bit more speed wouldnt go a miss esp when I get my S/s props aswell.

Re: Trim tabs

Its obviously cheaper in the sister isle...A quick lift for the day in Jersey is £90, and anything above that is £65 each way. Its going to cost me £130 just to get it out and onto the hard for a service and anti-foul. Apparently, new to this but, as a marina berth holder I get a month on the 'hard' for free. Would it be cheaper to bring it to Guernsey for the yearly sevice???

Re: Trim tabs

I reckon so, but dont forget if you are not organising the crane and chocking your boat you have to pay for someone to do it. Extra £40

Re: sensible servicing Costs

I am just being faced with a bill of £1600, for a 21 ft boat with Volvo engine for:
crane in and out
antifoul
outdrive service
new anodes and other bits
alternator repair.
cleaning

Your labour costs are incredibly low - is it worth me getting the boat to your engineers for next years service? How does this compare to others ?

Re: sensible servicing Costs

I think your paying too much, an engine & outdrive service for on my 24ft Sealine cost around £900.

I do the antifouling myself and cost £80.
Liftout £130ish including wash down and kept on the hard for 6 weeks to clean & antifoul.

Where are you based to be paying those prices.

Re: sensible servicing Costs

What are they doing to your engine and oudrive, to cost £900? Thats seems a lot of money to me, for filters, oil, impellor, anode etc. even adjusting the valve clearances etc. What else are they doing?

Re: sensible servicing Costs

Hi CCScott99,

And I thought Windsor was paying too much!

Engine,
Parts : £300
(Oil & Fuel & Air Filters,Oil 5L,Anti-Freeze,Fleetguard Element,Impeller Kit,Zinc Anodesx3,Belt,Belt Power Steering,Hose Clamps)
Labour : £335

Outdrive,
Parts : £120 (Includes a replacement throttle cable)
(Drive Bellows Kit,Ex/Bellows Kit,Hose Clamp,Bushing Kit,Cotter Pin,Cotter,Con,Cable 5.00m)
Labour : £230

I'm I paying over the odds here, if so what should I expect to pay ? I use RK Marine in Southampton.

Re: sensible servicing Costs

The labour charges seem a bit high, how many days did they work on the boat? I would suggest you speak to somebody further along the coast, It might be worth a trip down to the west country for your servicing, it doesn't have to be done in the spring and winter, you could fit it in with a little cruise. I think the spares are expensive aswell, belts and filters can be obtained anywhere, ok the special bits, bellows etc but even then, maybe I'm out of touch.

Re: sensible servicing Costs

Thanks for that, it is for one day's work.

My boat is under a three year warranty which ends this year, so I will consider doing it a lot cheaper either by myself or a professional that does not need to be a Volvo dealer.
