Anybody have experience of servicing one of these winches.

Instructions from Anderson say - exploded view in the .pdf

http://www.andersenwinches.com/p44.asp#

1. Remove circlip (1).
2. Remove drum (2).
3. Remove the black plastic circlip (8).
4. Remove the drive shaft (6).
5. Remove bearing bushing (7)
6. Clean all moving parts with benzine.
7. Check pawls & springs for wear and replace if necessary. In order to
replace the upper pawls (5) or springs (4), the gliding washer (3)
must be removed.
8. Reassemble the winch in reverse order, lightly greasing all moving
parts, with a soft, small brush. We strongly recommend to use only
ANDERSEN Winch Grease for this purpose*
9. Check that the winch is functioning correctly.

but when I get to 4. I can't remove the drive shaft, worried about using brute force and the winch (although working OK) hasn't been servided for many years ...

Grateful if someone knows if this should just pull off or is there some knack ?

Thanks
