Servicing a yanmar 2gm20 engine

We have a 2GM20F. Basic service - oil & oil filter change: air filter change; fuel filter change; bleeding fuel system; raw water impeller change; winterising - all very straightforward. Only other thing I have had to do is change the exhaust elbow.

Never been beyond this but never had to in 10 years of use.

PM me if you want any further info.

That's what I do with mine, except for the air filter change. On my engine the air filter just consists of a cone made of foamed plastic. I just wash this in detergent and water. Do you change yours?

You will find that the foam eventually disintegrates with age although it will take several years for this to happen. Worth checking and replacing when it starts to feel brittle - don't want the bits in the engine!!

It might be time to check the tappets then. I do mine every five years and usually have to adjust them. I've also done a top end overhaul including fue pump and injector.

Easy I did it!

Seriously anodes (if SW cooled) water pump oil change, belts, check thermostat, exhaust manifold (just do not sheer the bolts), flush water system, change engine mount...

Its a basic engine so no problems...

I was going to take off my exhaust elbow today but couldn't face the fiddly hassle (not much room around it!) so sprayed the nuts with Plus Gas and will take it off next time. I am hoping to put a SS one on if one is found by the local engineer I bumped into today!
