My Fridge (Frigomat Roma) does not seem as efficient as it was four years ago when new. The motor seems to need to run more often. Am I just imagining this, or is there a reason for the fridge to gradually lose efficiency? And is this user-serviceable?

All the help the Frigomat manual gives is "your fridge should be inspected by a Frigomat technician on an annual basis" - donch hate that sort of "advice" from vendors...

Sounds like you have lost some of the refrigerant over the years and it needs a top up, if there is less gas than there should be it won't be able to transfer the heat away so efficiently so will have to run more often to achieve the setting you have dialed on the thermostat. Any decent Refrigeration or Airconditioning outfit should be able to give it a service.

Another possibility is that the insulation has absorbed water. This would reduce its insulating value and so result in the compressor having to run more often

Last time I was in Halfords they were selling aerosol cans of top up gas for car AC units..Any use , anyone!?
