Ha well. The system is this. Service only includes engines. EErr you mean you want gearboxes, heating and other things checking!!! Also stearing dont count. Its not like a car service. They dont check the wipers, the fridge or the bilge pump. I've been trying to get a boat servised For about 15 years. All they tell me is that I use it to much..
No one can force me to come here-----------

Try approx £780 per pair, Volvo agent.
Lift out £350, Antifoul £6/foot
Basic service to engines if you do it yourself, £180 in genuine parts plus oil. Or try lorry parts for air filters and fuel filters i use only volvo oil filters, if your in Blankenberge the Volvo agent there has them at about 2/3 rds of the price.
Being in the trade anything can happen, take Today for instance, travelled to Conwy Marina in North Wales to do engine repair on Princess 35 200 hp 41 series Volvo, did job no problem talked to owner and told him the final bill, he said thats great, the yard wanted a lot more than that... I think my prices need to go up!.
Take last weeks tales of the unexpected, friednd has Targa 33 same engines but on legs, yard on South coast Solent area give him a price for new exhaust risers, Ian Ainge will know all about this, they take engines out , quote approx 4K then they look at engines, start stripping them down without his consent then send him an estimate for....... 14 K ????, so I step in, look at quote, what they are trying to do is small bits of work they list all of them separetly to bump the price up when in actuall fact all the work is done together in a fraction of the time, like quote was for 200 hours at 47.00 per hours plus vat etc, surely this cant be on I said to the yard, well it needs doing so take it or leave it.
So my friend did, he left it, net result was both engines being lifted into the back of my van and brought up to me 200 miles away from them, so in the end they will get only a small amount of work from him, surely in this day and age it is better to be fair with clients and keep the staff in work rather than try to make a lot of money and never see the client again... or am I missing something?.
Did you say 47 (forty seven) pounds an hour for labour!! I'm in the wrong bloody job! I was being paid 7 pounds an hour in Dartmouth, (before returning to offshore, downturn!) as a boat mechanic, the norm down there for an employee is only 10-12 pounds an hour, I was working black and supplying my own transport! No wonder you guys complain about servicing costs, I had no idea, I'm sorry for all you guys who can't do it yourselves, bloody hell, I'm in shock!
One thing I don't understand, as he is a friend of yours - why didn't he come to you first.
I truly believe Volvo agents are just rip off merchants - you may remember my "rusty oil sump" they quoted around £500 for sump replacement, it was double that and then the service on top i.e. £1800+. You just felt that anything they could charge for they did. Needless to say I won't be using them again, and that reminds me, must speak to you when my next service is due.
