Standard costs (in the UK) for service on D4-300s and legs? Just a ball park starter figure - don't need a long discussion about this, that, the other, and price of fish, or, 'it all depends' ... :D .... just a base figure.
I'll be interested to compare figures here in France with those in the UK. ... please? ... :encouragement:

At the risk of saying it depends.... We had D4 260s so same engine as yours.

From memory

Main dealer 100 hours service UK cGBP1800
Local guy 200 hours service Inc bellows cGBP1600, main dealer quoted me almost twice that
Spanish main dealer 300 hours service (non bellows) cEUR2,100

My quote just came through yesterday ... being France it's taken 21/2 months!
Full house engine and legs service incl all bits, filters, anodes, oil etc but not bellows which we'll see about when she's lifted but will probably do anyway .......
€1488 which seemed reasonable to me ... he's also doing a/f ... 1 x Primocon and 2 x Interspeed for €1600 and then polishing the whole boat, with very faded brown topsides and white decks and roof - compound as much as necessary, polish same and then wax at €3700 ...... all in all I thought these prices reasonable, with the polishing being a major operation! Should end up with a new looking boat!

All these different opinions and options from companies .
In my book a service is a service on a drive which must include taking the drive off to inspect the seals and most importantly the universal joint, this should be done every other year and while you doing this it gives a chance to change the trim pin bushes , clean inside the shield behind the drive and inspect the trim Rams and hoses, this in your book is a full and proper service, anyone quoting justbto fit anodes is not a proper service which means important things are missed.
This can cause problems in the near future.
Every other year change the drive bellows clips , peel back the bellow when the clips off to check for water ingress, change the oil and anodes, check the shift cable split pin for corrosion, changed many just lately as they seem to be acting as anodes , not sure if VP have changed supplier and the fact the bellows clips just don't last like they used to.

Set up a sheet and document what's been done each year and tell your engineer that way he knows what's been change do and what hasn't, if he's worth anything he will act accordingly and look after your boatbthe way it should be.

All to common DIY boat owners just think anodes and a top,up of oil does the trick, the water sits in the bottom of the drive.

Yes we've established (in pigeon French) that the legs are coming off ... the only thing he hasn't quoted for is bellows but I'm going to get him to replace them anyway.
