Serious/professional polishers.

Plenty at that price if you really want to waste so much money.

Silverline make a perfectly reasonable device at £30 see http://www.silverlinetools.com/index.html?code=406548

They actually look pretty good!
One concern, is 1000rpm a little to fast? (as the one form machine mart is 2 speed)

hey talbot, if i do go for a cheaper one: -

I have both the Silverline and the Porter Cable 7424.

I bought the Silverline after Talbot recommened it on another thread a while back.

The PC I bought about a month ago.

The PC is a superb peice of kit. The silverline has not been used !

There really is no comparison - you do get what you pay for - so if anyone wants an unsed Silverline for - £25 ?

The PC, used with the right products will remove swirls etc etc. Used it on my car last week - and did a small area of the boat this weekend just to see and WOW !

Hi adrian,

My friend rates them very highly, amazing he said.

Where abouts did u buy yours from? they seem hard to source in the uk?

I have a similar machine with 2 speed. 1000 rpm is the slower, and is fine as a polish speed, not so good as a sander. mine has a second speed of 2500, which I still reckon is a little on the slow side for sanding.

The Silverline machine is 600-3,000RPM, and at £30 !!!!

as AdrianB says The PC, used with the right products will remove swirls etc etc. , but this is true for any of these machines. The place you really need the quality is in the polishing mops and lambswoool pads, and dont skimp on these, and replace as soon as they need it. (Machine mart is a reasonable source for them)

If you are going to be polishing boats as a business then buy the expensive machines cause they will undoubtedly last a lot longer. However, most of us will only use the polisher on the boat about 3 times a year.

Yes, amazing.

From your link - Autopia is where I got mine from. When I bought mine they did a "kit" which included a couple of pads and some polish. Not tried the polish, and the pads , well I prefer the Lake Country ones, but that's just me.

There is a major snag with buying them in to sell on - so as far as I am aware, no-one does - ce regs maybe ? don't forget you'll need a 110v transformer and a yellow 110v plug - bought mine from Screwfix.

Good luck - one of these days I'll put up some before and after pics !

Well I guess there really is no comparison if the Silverline is unused. I've just done my whole boat with a similar cheaper polisher and the results were amazing. Whatever you get just make sure it can go from 800-1500 rpm.

Tommy, if you had a Porter Cable in in one hand, and yours in the other you would pick the PC to use !

Rotary V. Random Orbital - and the correct compounds/polishes/waxes, sealants/glazes - make all the difference.

Yes, I'm sure I would. I have used a professional polisher before, and they are better, but more in terms of ease of use than results. I guess it depends on how much you're prepared to pay, for me the price difference is a lot. Agree that the compunds/polishes/waxes are critical though.

G'day Woody,

Why not visit a couple of your local panel and paint repair outlets and ask them what they use.

I did this a few years ago and found them to be a mine of information on the best polishers and products. They do it everyday and have years of experience they can pass on. By the way, most of them use a polisher made in Italy, very light but long lasting and all use high quality pads including some that are not lambs wool.

Avagoodweekend......

The two that are most common in bodyshops are Sealey and Rupes. The Rupes is a very high quality unit but the Sealey is more common.
