Serious Glue required

Sikaflex. Beef it up with somethng over the joint to strnghten the join.
I had to cut down my air filterhousing (bukh) then just restuck using sikaflex.
About 3yrs now.

It might be worth another go with Araldite. I repaired the plastic radiator on my citroen about 5 years ago and it has been fine so far. I abraded the bits to join with fine wet and dry then washed off with acetone before glueing. I have found that the 5 minute version seems to stick to plastic better than the slower drying type, but left it overnight before use. The repair was a mounting bracket that had pulled off and made a hole into the liquid side of things, so it withstands the pressure in the cooling system and the temperature changes.

Hi Ross, believe me had it been that simple, the last thing I would have done was put a posting on the subject. This afternoon I will make another effort to grip the inside part of the union, but doubt I will manage it, as the only access is through the coolant filler cap. If not I will find something to block the gaps and seal it.
Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

I previously asked what the inside diameter of the fitting was, but got no response. The reason I asked the question was if it was small enough to use a stud extractor to grip the inside of the fitting from outside the tank and enable you to tighten the flange nut.

Hi Bert T, I thank you for the suggestion. I had an interuption after you had posted your first query and then missed it. I checked the situation this afternoon and the job I did last weekend appears to, at least for the moment, have fixed it. This despite the adhesion on part of the union being suspect. I will run the engine up to temperature on Sunday and watch the dodgy union for leakage. To use a stud extractor would be a good way of holding it, provided I could get it in from the outside, the part is far from easily accessible. Your suggestion is appreciated, thanks.
