Hello all,

I have 2x Separ KWA50s in my boat. It is my understanding that these are basically identical to the racor 500 series filters and as such the paper elements are interchangeable (according to ASAP supplies). The separ replacements are nearly 25 quid and the racors around a tenner.

Is there any reason to stick with the separs when they are over twice the price?

Thanks,

D.

No - they are internally very similar. The Separ assembly is a pain in the ar@e, the Racor is really easy to live with. Use original Racor filters though as they have an extra water repellent coating.

I had the newer version of the separ filter on a rib I bought went to buy a replacement square filter & it was so expensive compared to the filters for the racor filters I bought a complete fiter head it wouldnt take long to save the cost of a new filter head in cartridges alone.
I guess if your using racor filters in a separ head you need to be sure its an exact fit to be sure its not being bypassed

We used Racor paper filters in Separ filter housings on our last boat - same model as yours and no issue at all - as ASAP say they are interchangeable.

Sounds good.

Any advantage of the Racor 500 over the Separ 50 units? I can get 2 genuine Racor 500FG units including filters for £100 a piece. They have the clear bowls (which I like) which are around £70 alone so I am tempted. Kahurst, you say "The Separ assembly is a pain in the ar@e, the Racor is really easy to live with." What do you mean by that?

I wonder if it would be worth it, or would there would be fitment issues?

Thoughts?

Our current boat has the Racor 500 with clear bowls and flame deflectors and I like them. Not sure that they are any better or worse than the Separ units but at that price with the clear bowls why not change them if that is your preference? Can imagine there would be any insurmountable issues with fitting.
