Separ fuel filter

I have a persistent leak from around the top of the filter bowl. Have tried new seal, bowl refitting etc and still a small leak always seems to develop. A tiny bit in itself but enough to cause nasty niffs.
Am I being unrealistic to expect and 100% seal with this type of fitting?

You should expect 100% perfection on the seal. I take it your tank is above the filter, otherwise the suction from the pump could cause air to get into the system.

Deisel drips if left for a long time, attract bacteria which decompose the diesel - this can lead to a far worse odour than the deisel itself.

The seal should not leak at all. Open it up to see why it is leaking - the mating surfaces must be clean and free of damage/ corrosion of any sort. It takes very little to make the seal fail, so if in doubt - install a new one. Leaking fuel is a hazard to both safety and the environment, apart from nasty niffs!

check the diameters of the sealing washers at the top and bottom of the cartridge and if it has a glass/alu water trap check these .The one that fits between the glass and cartrige is slightly smaller on some filter setups.also slight difference between
old imperial and newer metric filters.
