Is there one? A normal butane regulator is maybe £2.50 butthe marine ones are priced at more like £50. Obviously some cost difference but no way that much. Anyone found a source at sensible levels?
My marine one was about £30 which I'm happy to pay, as gas is one thing not to skimp on in any way !
I suspect insurers might have something to say if there was an accident ( which one survived to care ) and non-marine kit had been used, when aware of the proper thing, even if irrelevant to the accident ?
I would ring a Gas Safe person to ask why the different prices, all chandlery kit is more expensive but there might be a reason.
With gas can you afford to cut corners and fit a £5 camping regulator rather than a £35 annexe M regulator that includes the above features and complies with the relevant standards.
What will your insurance company say about the validity of your insurance?
It is recommended that they are replaced every 10 years so your boast that it has been working for 16 years does you no credit.
Recommended by whom, precisely? And on what basis? And with what knowledge of the poster's regulator, installation service regime and maintenance?
You're lucky then .ttheres something in my policy about maintaining "the craft" not a lot but I am sure enough to give the insurance co the opputunity to avaoid paying out.
Thinking about this the worst-case would be complete failure of the standard reg innards and high pressure gas getting to the burner and, possibly, blowing the valves.

The marine (EN 12864 annex M ) regulators include several features which probably account for the difference in price between them and the cheapest of the cheap camping regulators.
Material in contact with the atmosphere is corrosion resistant. In particular this includes internal components above the diaphragm.
A vent on the edge of the diaphragm to drain water which may collect on the diaphragm.
An over-pressure relief valve with a downward facing vent.

Add in a CG 907 & you would really have been mugged+1 sensible reply.
