Hi all

So….i have a lovely old cetrek autopilot system. I’ve have success bringing these back to life in the past but the parts are just not around anymore.

Plan is to keep the pump and rudder reference.

Spoke to the ever helpful Garmin guys and going for a ghp 12 and reactor 40 CCU with retrofit wires needed.

My query is the pump

The pump is a 930-100. I’ve attached the manual referencing it and it appears to just be a 2 wire affair….red and black. That makes sense as it will just reverse polarity to run the pump one way or the other. The ghp 12 can cope with that (and can support a clutch too but looks like there isnt one.

What’s confused me is the existing wiring as attached

Light ship (green and black 12v live according to my volt meter)
Pump supply ( brown and black 12 live again)
Pump output (red and black no voltage)

Am I right that “light ship” is to power the cetrek system and “motor supply” is more heavy duty supply just for the pump. What’s thrown me is the the name of light ship and gauge of the wiring is all pretty much the same

The ghp 12 wiring is just 12v supply in…no separate feed so I’d likely use “motor supply”

Lastly, what does a 2 wire pump mean? Just that I won’t be able to steer when the system is on I assume?

Please check my logic here….especially @vas 😁IMG_2858.jpegIMG_2857.pngIMG_4056.jpegIMG_4059.jpeg

I put a Cetrek ECU and compass in the skip a few weeks ago, it's usually the controllers that fail and are near impossible to get hold of now. So, bin all of the Cetrek bits except the pump and the rudder reference sender.

Fit the Garmin retrofit kit ; Reactor 40 Mechanical/Retrofit/Solenoid Corepack | Garmin

You need the rudder sensor cable ; 010-11532-00, just connect it to the Cetrek sender

Also, the drive power cable ; 010-11533-00. Two power wires in and two out for the pump.

The pump only has 2 wires, no clutch. If the AP is engaged you cannot steer, but some systems will allow you to turn the wheel and change direction to a degree, but the AP will correct the course. You can optionally fit the Garmin shadow drive, which automatically disengages the AP if the wheel is turned, IMO it's very overpriced and not necessary.

That's it.

Edit

Light ship (green and black 12v live according to my volt meter) Remove this wiring, it was to power the Cetrek system, as you thought.
Pump supply ( brown and black 12 live again) Use this for power to the GHP 12
Pump output (red and black no voltage) This goes to the pump

The reactor 40 and the controllers are powered from the N2K network. If you don't have one, you'll have to fit one.

That is exactly what I have purchased!

Have you got control heads for the cetrek stuff? I think the computer is actually fine!

Echo map 65cv. Reading the manuals and support pages, it can act as a head…do setup etc…
Only if it's a Plus or UHD, or you cannot do the commissioning. You can double check , Home > Settings > My Vessel > Autopilot Installation Menu
I’m going to need another for the upper helm anyway so will likely get another echomap but UHD2 75
You can do it from this one though.

Sorry….its a plus model
Autopilot installed and dock wizard worked! Result.

Last question…..in order to install a 2nd Garmin plotter that shares the map and allows autopilot control…can I just do that via a Ethernet cable or would it need n2k as well?

Can’t figure out if Garmin network alone is enough to allow control of n2k devices connected to the other plotter

The Echomap doesn't have a Garmin Network port.

You don't need to share charts, Echomaps have pre-loaded charts.

Connect them both to the N2K network and either should control the autopilot.
