Semco, when applying to freshly cleaned and completely dry teak stand the tin inside a bucket. This is to safegaurd from knocking the tin over, and secondly you have to stir the contents on a regular basis during application as it will separate if you don't. Make sure when you start, you do not stop, for example half way down a side deck and allow it to dry, make sure you finish where that area of teak ends to avoid an unsightly edge. The smell of semco is fairly strong when applying, and it will need cleaning off at the start of the following season with teak cleaner and re-applying as semco tends to wear away on high traffic areas. It does not collect dirt like oil, I cannot comment on the sweating. I hope this is of help.

I really dislike the stuff. Smelly to put on, wrecks your clothes, makes the sikaflex sticky, has a horrible pigment in it, doesn't really protect from uv...... I could go on.
After many years of using it I have stopped. It doesn't sweat though.
My preference is Holmenkol which is a newer product. I have only been using it for a few months now on a new boat but it seems to be much better. No pigment, not sticky, soaks in quicker, natural colour, we're soluble during application......
Hopefully the long term results will be good as well..

We've stopped using it too......
........as the formula of the product seems to have changed. The "neutral" product started making the teak unnaturally yellow after having used it for 4 or 5 years. Our neighbour continues to use it and to my eyes its just not right; the teak is a bright yellow colour. I'd rather see silvered teak.

also given up with it - we found it started to break down half way through season and powdery flaky residue appeared. Now just enjoy traditional silver grey weathered look. We clean it with washing up liquid and a softish brush a few times a year and its fine.

I used Semco for years and thought it was the best but over time I have lost confidence in it and the teak does go yellow. I am now slowly getting it all off and reverting to Oxalic acid to clean the teak and leaving it as natural.
I have a brand new 1 gallon tin if anyone wants to make me an offer on it.

Hi Aidi,
Have been using Semco for about 8 years on our eleven year old Hallberg Rassy. Prior to that we used Teak Wonder which we found to be too yellow.
The trick is in the application as follows:-
At the start of each season, we clean and brighten the teak with oxalic acid.
When completely dry we apply Semco ('Natural')
Apply with a small paint brush or foam pad. ( Do not overfill) and only work on an area of about a square metre at a time.
Before dry wipe excess off with a J-cloth. This leaves the caulking free of stickiness and residue.We apply a second coat to high wear areas.
Our boat has been in the Med for the last six years, so the UV protection is important.
We are still asked if the boat is new.
