Semco teak oil

Any experience of this product?

We have just seen a Hallberg Rassy as old as ours (1991) with decks looking far better than ours. Admittedly their boat had far less use and not spent 10 years in the Med.
An excellent product, my ancient HR teak deck ten years older than yours (dammit to hell) has obtained a new lease of life with regular (and I stress regular) use of it.

But look for 'Teak Wonder' at half the price. I switched when I found that it looks like the same product, smells like the same product and applies and performs like the same product, so I'm prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt that it IS the same product, obtained and marketed under another corporate entity.

Agreed. I have used both, but now only use Holmenkol.

In my opinion there is no difference between Semco and Teak Wonder sealants.
Both stink though, and unless you are willing to apply them frequently you just get the pigment and no sealer.

Holmenkol is a better sealer, with no pigment. Much easier to apply as it is initially water soluble. However, it has less UV protection and the wood still goes grayish if that is important to you. Its so easy to apply though that you can slap a coat on every few months in minutes.

On the other hand, if you have the wood inside a cockpit cover, as we do, it will still look like new ofter a few years.

Semco

Hi, I would not use it on our decks (Malo 36) however I have been using it on the toe rail and grab rails and I think protects it and looks well. It stays the brownish colour for the whole season.

I noted recently with all this rain that the water on the toe rail is in little droplets so not absorbed like the decks. Easy to apply. I kept the tin in a bowl so drips not on decks

Bought in Guernsey at about £25 for IIRC American quart?
