Have seen and test-sailed a Hirondelle Mk 3 catamaran. OH was bowled over by the six foot of standing headroom in galley and heads, as well as the large deck and the fact you can sail without keeling over. So we are purchasing what is now described as "our boat" - and after all, we do have a hull each.

Now I need to go about selling "my boat", the Jaguar 22. She's currently on a swing in Portsmouth harbour but I'm going to move her to make way for the new boat. The choice is to put her on an alongside drying mooring or have her lifted out and put on the hard. I'm thinking that keeping her in the water would at least give potential buyers the chance to test sail and see her afloat (or sat on the mud!) The other issue is I want to sell her without the 6hp outboard as it is a new one and I'd like to keep it as a backup / spare for our new boat (which also has an outboard, although 9.9hp, in a well). I bought her with just a very small outboard (2.5hp), knowing I'd need to get bigger engine, so I'm thinking any potential purchaser might be happy to buy a boat without an outboard, especially if it was a bit cheaper as a result? Have seen Jag 22s listed for the 2.5-3k mark but I'm thinking of going fairly low price-wise to avoid clocking up the extra mooring fees and hassle of owning an extra boat that has to be kept insured etc.

Within the five years of ownership she's had all new electrics and cabin / nav lights, new solar panel charging the battery, new vhf/dsc radio programmed with mmsi number and linked to new garmin chart plotter. New running rigging fitted and reset by professional rigger. All woodwork removed from boat, sanded and varnised with about 11 layers of yacht varnish before being replaced, insulated (including under berths) with closed cell foam which completely stops condensation. Electric and manual bilge pump. Topsides and decks painted. Antifouled at the beginning of the season. However, she doesn't have any instruments (depth, wind, speed).

So what would you go for - in or out of the water? With or without engine? Price?

Cheapest places to advertise (that actually attract genuine buyers)?

Also, what happens about the SSR registration and the Ofcom radio license? Do I just contact them after I've sold the boat to transfer details?

ninky,

any probable buyer is going to need her hoisted ashore anyway, so the possibility of a test sail is just a nicety, up to them and their wallet.

Get her ashore if there's a cheaper place to leave her.

Re change of ownership

The SSR stays with the boat but obviously the change of ownership will have to be recorded ( It may cost the new owner £25, if he wants to continue with it)

See http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/owning-a-registered-pleasure-craft and scroll down about half way.

The VHF licence is not transferable either to the new owner or to your new boat although the Callsign and MIMSI number should stay with the boat. You can cancel the licence on line then you will both have to apply for new licences ....... unless things have been changed since I last checked it.

Check the Ofcom website http://www.ofcom.org.uk/ ... the online licensing part currently unavailable due to essential maintenance ( oil change ???)

As Seajet says, as the keel mechanism and skegs (if fitted) will (SHOULD) be inspected by any prospective buyer. On the 22 (lovely boats) this is probably it's Achilles heel as access for repair can be difficult........
