Selling second hand sails

I know there are several places that sell second hand sails but have never used any.

Any that people can recommend or any to avoid?

I'm looking to sell originally supplied mainsail and Genoa as previous owner replaced with better so no need for spares. Assuming we can get enough cash for them I may be tempted to splash on an asymmetric, happy to buy second hand if in good nick and the right size.

I tried to sell Ariam's old sails (the ones on board when we bought her, which we'd already decided to replace) through Seateach in Emsworth. They inspected them and declined - the phone call was more polite than "come and take your 'orrible old rags away", but it's probably what they were thinking

That suggests that they have some standards and know what they're dealing with, which are probably good signs.

Anyone care to mention "dealers" in second hand sails?

I would like some better sails for my little tub, but the cost of new is disproportionate to the value of the boat. I look every now and then on ebay, but have yet to find any the right size.

Jac, sold ours on e bay, well more like gave them away but they raised a few bob.

ProDave, don't overlook the sail makers themselves. We bought our Cruising Chute from Lucas which someone had ordered and paid a deposit then never collected. Didn't have a choice of colours but the price made up for it. This is the list from Kemps:

Anyone care to mention "dealers" in second hand sails?

As mentioned by prv in his post..http://www.seateach.com/Sails-and-Sail-Handling.htm. A long way from you, but they normally have a fair selection of used sails, might be worth an email if you're out of luck up your way. I've bought 2 used cruising chutes from them (different boats) and was happy with the deals.

I'm guessing you'll be looking for more than the £400 limit on the for sale forum for each sail if not it is worth trying to sell them yourself as there is no commission to pay which will mean you get more towards your assymetric
