Can anybody suggest a legal intermediary through whom I can conduct the private sale of a yacht ?

I have tried a local solicitors firm, but they don't want to get involved !

Both I and the purchaser just wish to use an intermediary so there are no legal problems re discharge of mortgage/transfer of funds.

Any ideas guys and gals ?

Regards,

Eric.

Ask any yachtbroker. I was quoted £60 because they knew they couldn't show that they had introduced the seller to me

If there is a mortgage on the boat why not deal with the lender, pay them they discharge the mortgage and pay balance to seller

Why don't you get the purchaser to arange for two payments. One to you and one to the lender for thr balance owing, then once you get confirmation of clearance, send copy to the new purchaser. It will save on any fee to a solicitor or broker.

Lenders will take a payment from someone not named on the loan, as long as an accompanying letter explains. You sign the letter and put an authorising section at the bottom of the letter for new purchaser to sign.

Use a well known yachtbroker, they do it all the time. Where are you? I could make a couple of reliable suggestions.

Re: Lender

IMHO that is the safest way to go. The lendor / mortgage company hold the title to the vessel anyway not the seller.
