I have my boat for sale in Dartmouth (see below website) and I have recently put her back in the water. I have already renewed the mooring for a year and I was planning to sell it with the mooring (it is a Kingswear harbour trot mooring). I'm only selling the mooring right for a 1 year as it is not transferable after March 2015.

Pros - someone buying the boat could literally sail it immediately and not have worry about mooring or being on a waiting list.
Cons - limits the buyer to someone who would want the boat in Dartmouth

Do you think the pros out weigh the cons here? Have a made the right decision to sell it on the mooring?

Not sure the mooring is yours to sell. Usually there is an option to transfer the licence to the new owner. You need to check with the owner of the mooring what your options are.

It could be a bonus for a buyer who does not have a mooring, but if the licence only runs for one season that benefit is limited.

You could offer the mooring as an option. If a buyer doesn't want it you can sell it separately.

However, a more important question is; are Dartmouth moorings transferable? The small print may not allow you to sell it.
The other point is that a boat on a mooring is more of a problem to sell because you need to arrange access.

As Tranona has said you will need to check, it looks poor if you have to retract. I have just seen a boat on E Bay advertised with mooring and I know for a fact that the mooring concerned is not transferable.

Nice boat, just the sort of thing I daydream about keeping in Brittany. Relax though I am not in the market!

At least you have a bit of extra publicity:peaceful:

Correct I'm not selling ownership as it is a harbour mooring. I'm selling the right to use it until March 2015.

The point is that it is on a mooring that is very difficult to come by and ready to sail. The benefit is that you wouldn't need to worry about finding a mooring up river somewhere or put it in the marina as some extortionate cost to be up near the town.

Yes. But is it yours to sell? You need to check with the harbourmaster that you can assign the rights. In many cases you can't. When you sell your boat you have to vacate the mooring, or the new owner has to apply to take it over. Would not be sensible to advertise that a buyer can use the balance of your licence without checking first.

Yes I have checked. I am selling the boat as a total price on the mooring. They have confirmed the boat can stay on the mooring until March 31st 2015 regardless of owner.
