Hello all
Not too sure if I am in the right area to post this, so apologies in advance if I am not.

I have a British registered speedboat (under 6m) which I have owned for 6 years (bought second hand in the UK) I have been a resident of Spain since last July, and now wish to sell the boat.

As we all know Spain loves their paperwork, and paperwork is needed for everything. I have paperwork for the trailer, but for the life of me don't know what I need to sell my boat in Spain... trying to sell it in the UK is out of the question.

Could anyone please point me in the right direction ?

Thanks in a:confused:dvance

Elle

I assume given its size and age thecaskong price is not that high ?

I think there are 2 answers here

1. If you sell to a non Spaniard then whatever he will accept as proof of ownership ( maybe nothing )

2 if selling to a Spaniard then there boats I believe all need registration - so whatever they need to register the boat

I dont think theres any specific paper work that is required by law, if the buyer wants to register it in spain that process might require some specific paperwork, but just selling it should be easy. So just see what the buyer requires and negotiate from there,i guess if you dont have something they deem critical for registration in whatever jurisdiction they are going to use it,then you may have a problem

I sold my british registered boat in spain, but to another brit who was going to keep it british registered, i just gave him the ssr certificate, and a stack of bills, plus the completed rya bill of sale doc from the rya website.

To register an SSR boat to Spanish registration you will absolutely require the original Certificate of Conformity. These are not required in the uk and often not supplied, even when buying new because nobody needs them. I would try and sell to a Brit, as the sale is straightforward. Don't mention the above, cheers, Roger

Not sure that is true as it is illegal to sell a new boat without that documentation. It may well be that owners do not realise the importance and discard it, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to sell recent boats without the certificate to second and subsequent owners, even though there is no legal requirement to keep them.

You are right, of course that the certificate is far more important in other states like Spain, and often used for purposes for which it was never intended.
