Selling a Boat To Someone Outside The UK

Thanks for the input everyone.
The last boat that I sold 7 years ago had the scammers crawling out their holes with the usual “I’ll pay now and you can refund the extra,” etc. That’s one reason that I’m cautious. However, being a trusting person and having spoken to the prospective buyer a few times now and also via several e-mails I feel reassured.
I spoke to our marina’s broker today too, he is happy to handle the sale at a fee to be agreed when I call back tomorrow. He will hold the payment in his broker’s account for several days before the completion date to ensure .
Bit that worries me is the few days... Some of the stories of scams recount that the cheque/ transfer/draft only turned up as fakes after a a couple of weeks and the bank was not helpful about the fraud.

Certainly used to be possible with foreign cheques - notoriously long tome to get "certainty of fate". I would recommend avoiding any cheques, including "bank transfers".
Electronic transfers are much faster to certainty of fate, but as others have said would need more details on country of origin, scale of funds and method of electronic transfer used
