Selling a boat in Ireland

Without diverting the thread I think that is a bit of a nonsense. If the boat has EU VAT paid and was in the adriatic and is still in the EU I can't see anyone asking where it was on a particular day. I am normally in La Trinite and nobody asks where a boat was at 11 pm on new years eve 2020. Even if by chance he had popped into the uk on that day with his boat. Nobody could prove that is where it was.
There is legal and practical - legally if the boat had been brought back to UK over the Brexit date than it would indeed have lost its EU VAT status.
But as you say may be unlikely to be checked if still in Adriatic. But OP said had mainly been in Atlantic France - where there is much more visiting UK boats on temporary stay.
And if a British registered boat being sold in Ireland, as the OP suggests, and taken back to EU, a lot more queries about VAT status are likely to be asked.
So not a simple boat sale in the Med.

Ireland is in the EU so "taken back" won't arise. Also I don't believe the OP said the boat is UK registered, not that it matters.

No suggestion that it has ever been in the UK. Registration is irrelevant and while there may be questions about a UK registered boat, that would be the same in France as in Ireland and easily settled with reference to the purchase in the EU.

1. The OP hasn’t confirmed if ever been in the UK or not - but having been in Atlantic France “most” of the time that was just a day or so sailing away so quite possible / probable. Easy for the OP to confirm either way.
2. Yes technically registration state does not determine EU VAT status, in Northern Europe there will be a much higher percentage of UK flagged boats than EU flagged boats which are not EU VAt paid and sailing under 18 month temporary import. So any sensible customs official interested in checking VAT status would have a better hit rate by checking non EU flagged vessels.
3. As you know proof needs to be not just of original purchase but any subsequent purchases and where on Brexit date. All probbaly easy stuff for a 10 year old boat.
Still, I personally wouldn’t move my boat to Ireland from France to sell it.

I don't wish to be rude, and I'm sorry to say so, but your posts are moving rapidly towards being ridiculous. The OP has set out his situation very clearly. Why would he get into confirming or denying irrelevant details just to satisfy your rather strange line of argument. By the way, EU flagged boats are not eligible for TA in the EU, contrary to what you seem to think.

I … By the way, EU flagged boats are not eligible for TA in the EU, contrary to what you seem to think.
No but I was responding to Tranona’s point that flag isn’t relevant to VAT status. It is relevant to whether likely to be checked.
And aware that EU flagged boats and boats with EU resident owners should normally be VAT paid - but presumably they may occasionally be checked, just much more unlikely.
