Has anyone recommendations for self heating meals? Thinking of getting some for those cold, wet, tired hungry moments when the conditions are a little too sporting to crank up the stove and the soup in the thermos has gone...
H J Heinz used to make self-heating soups I have no idea whether they still do. I remember seeing them being tested in the lab. One day a junior technician lit one but forgot to puncture the can first. The lab was evacuated until it cooled down!
We've used Hot Packs. They have everything you need in one packet including implements. They taste OK (well fabulous if you're at the end of long cold night watch) and have a long shelf life - http://www.hotpackmeals.co.uk/
Not sure I'd want to eat them every day but when it's rough, cold and generally a bit nasty they are great.
Meals I've tried are Lancashire Hot Pot, Chicken Dopiaza Curry and the Chicken Casserole. All passed the taste test with SWMBO and me.
We get issued hot packs at work as emergency rations, on getting new ones issued I thought I would try one of last years for lunch. A disapointingly small portion considering the size of the packet and lots of rubbish to dispose of, I immediately went off and bought a pasty afterwards as I was still hungry.
bear in mind, the heating part of the pack takes up space. If you want a full meal, and are somewhere you can organise that. If you are cold, hungry, and have one of these in the boot of car, in the boat when you haven't been shopping for 12 days, well, ..
they tend to taste not that bad.
can't be any worse than frey bentos tins, and they are the pits unless you are really hungry
