If I take her out to sort the stern gear etc, I might as well deal with the anti-foul. I applied XM self-eroding last year, will enough of this be taken off during a power wash to allow me to apply another couple of coats without scraping? Or do I still need to go through the whole process of scrape, prime and paint?

Depends on the condition of what's there. Your post implies you scraped and primed last year so you only have a fairly thin layer and it should be in good condition - not flaking, blistering etc.

If you're coming out for a short time you should be able to recoat as soon as it's dry from pressure washing. Probably should rub down with wet & dry (used wet) but many people wouldn't bother.

If you're out for a while better to leave repainting until you are close to going back in and then it's more important to rub down first.

I was hoping to be out for only 2 weeks. Last year we sandblasted, primed and anti-fouled with 3 coats so I think I will plan for a best case of applying 2 more when she is dry.

One of the writers for the comics ( James might remember who ) claimed to keep slapping it on until the ledge at the waterline was wide enough to stand on. I wouldn't go quite that far.

[/ QUOTE ] Good heavens no. Wash the muck off, scrape any losse stuff off (But there wont be any if you have pressure washed) then slap on a fresh coat, 2 if you really must!

I bought the boat in March 2006 and know it had 2 coats of International Cruiser Uno in march 2005.

Lifted out June 2006, pressure wash got the slime off, chiiped the barnacles off, scraped the loose stuff off, and rubbed around the edges where I'd scraped, (not much).... also rubbed any areas where it was either proud or indented.

Primocon undercoat on any rubbed or bare areas, then 2 coats again.

12 months later, a few barnacles, a green grass which I brush off, (scuba diving), and all is fine. Funny thing is, nothing is growing on the few small bear areas.

So no need to go to town.
