Self adhesive labels for inside boat

For clutches, we use a small basic hand dymo tape embosser.Narrow enough for the handles, Braille effect for night sailing, last about two years, white on black/dark red best. Can use for Switch panel etc changes too.
I'd love to find luminous effect dymo tape though.

Some of the Dymo style models actually print on tape and do not like cleaning (polish, detergents et al).
Many premade to choose from for symbols eg.

I needed a few only and had them engraved.

I borrowed a Brother machine to label my clutches. Fiddly job, as had to cut the tape down to fit the recesses in the handles. Worth trying a few different font sizes and letter spacings before finally deciding.

I reckon that Brother make the best label printers, and their new range can produce heat resistant labels and heat shrink tubing to label cables.

they also have a refurbished section from people who upgrade. Good telephone sales and support.

Labelzone also know about specialist tapes for UV exposed, aggressive environments, etc.

I have a Brother P Touch 1090 label printer and have used it for clutches,MMSI and call sign labels in the cockpit next to remote radio, ditto on hand held radio.Have also done my switch panel inside the boat. All looks good and have been on 3 years now without signs of deterioration.I have used the laminated tape for the external stuff. You get 8m in a cassette which will do a lot of labels.Excellent buy.

+1 you can also get different width tapes to make smaller labels and they do a "cable label" setting which produces a double label for folding round a wire. Not much to choose between Dymo and Brother: I chose ours because it came first in the catalogue.....

Another vote for Brother P-Touch

I have marked the jammers 3 years ago, still look like new. The have a plethora of different tapes in different widths like shown in the link above.

The (Brilliant) battery powered one I use is a Brother. P - Touch 80. Cheap at £12 from Viking. type P Touch 80 on Amazon and it will come up with it.

I also use a Brother printer - you must get the model that uses UV Resistant Tape - not all the cheaper models do. My wife bought one for gardening labels but always complains because she cannot find it(it's on the boat!). To date labels have lasted 5 years with no sign of degradation. A tip is to round the corners so they don't curl up.

Another Brother P-Touch user here - at least for "internal" labels on wiring and the like. For stuff that's permanently on display, I've taken it a step further and now get them laser-engraved on Rowmark plastic (successor to the old Traffolite, where the top colour is removed to let the underneath one show through). I started by getting a couple done at the same time as the new electrics panels - trouble is that once you've got some bits done that way, anything less seems like a bodge :)

Had a Brother P-Touch 1200 for some years now. Clutch labels still in place after four years exposed to the elements. :encouragement:
