Agious Nickolais (or something similar) is the main touristy town on Crete. We had a great time there a long time ago, before it became developed.

slightly confused,
it's Agios NiKolaos (so Saint Niclaus or whatever) it is indeed a city one of the 4 biggest in Crete and at the Northern East part of it next to all the really touristy destinations like Hersonissos, Malia, etc.
I suppose the OP saw this craft close to Agios Nikolaos and wants to know what it is, or is it called Agios Nikolaos???

Definitely Octopus, Paul Allen's boat. It was in Cote D'Azur anchored outside his house earlier this month

hm, http://www.marinetraffic.com doesn't know this boat. Is this normal for such a large one or is it owner's decision to add or not to the db?

That's weird. A boat of that size must transmit AIS and I'm sure I've seen it on my AIS screens when I've been near it. I have no idea why it doesn't show on the db. It is not the owner's decision whether to be on the db though I suppose a "powerful" owner could organise for it not to be there!
Edit: I just typed in lots of ship names that i know are correct and they came up as "out of range", including m/y octopus

Hmm. I imagine that if he wanted to disappear from AIS (perhaps so as not to advertise the presence of one of the wealthiest men in the World to any groups of kidnappers) he might be able to lay his hands on a techie or two, to fix it for him.....
