Seeking some shims

I was wondering if someone on here could advise me about the following.
My boat has twin Yanmar 6LPA-DTP engines, fitted new in 2004. They are 6 cylinder, 12 valve. I believe these are based on a Toyota Landcruiser engine, possibly the 1HD-T but I can't swear to that.

I am planing to check and adjust the valve clearances and will need some shims. The Yanmar shims come in 10 sizes and part numbers range from 119770-00520 to 119770-00610 inclusive. These are very expensive at £17.36 each! I am guessing that if I could get them from Toyota, they would be a lot cheaper.

Trouble is, understandably, Toyota can't supply without a VIN or reg number.........
The boat doesn't have either of these!

Am I right about it being based on a 1HD-T?
Can anyone tell me some Toyota part numbers please?

I would see if I could measure first each clearance then work out what requires the shimming adjusting and obtain shims to suit, rather than wildly buying a mass of sizes you may never require. Seems a ridiculous way to adjust valves IMHO.

Yes. That would be ridiculous as you say.

I've given the wrong impression here obviously. I intend to calculate the shims required in the standard way by measuring the existing ones, where adjustment is required, and calculating what size to order.

I already have the sizes relating to the Yanmar part numbers. I just need the Toyota part numbers to order the respective shims when calculated.

I had a similar issue with a Yamaha ME 370, needed the buckets for the top of the valve. Although i couldnt supply a vin no when i explained the same base engine was used in Toyota Dyna truck and Coaster buses he was able to go through the parts diagrams and find what i needed at a fraction of the Yamaha price. Its worth finding out what vehicles the base engine was used on and speaking to a proper parts guy.

I learnt this when I had the injectors serviced. The Yanmar price for the copper washer at the nozzle is £16.78 each. So, x 12, this totals £201.36.

I got the same parts from Darwen Diesels (CR Washer Denso Toyota Thick) for £5.58 a packet of 10! Had to buy 2 packets so saved £190.20 and had 8 spare.

I would suggest taking a shim out and measuring it with a micrometer as many engines use the same size shims and they only differ in their thickness to set the tappets to the correct specification, Toyota, Isuzu, and Mitsubishi to name three all use the same size shims across a range of their engines and an aftermarket specialist may well supply them for a fraction of the price of a main dealer.
