Now that I have a lovely bracket on the back of the slug I want to put a large crutch (if that is the correct word) on the bracket

I have the crutch but have yet to find a long enough scull

It needs to be at least 8 feet long with a long narrow blade

If anyone has one in their garage I would be very happy to buy it

I did have one - kept it for years for the day when I gotr the right boat

my son used it to build a teepee with and broke it - this was some time ago

or

if anyone knows where else I can get one

I am going to use it for sneaking up on birds

I am sure my right arm will get massive while my left withers away

you can see the postion of the bracket in this unethical seagull film

Length of 2x2 and a square of OSB? :D

Well, it did for emergency paddles on the RIB we borrowed the other year.

Seems in keeping with the Slug aesthetic :)

too floppy - too trendy

Dylan, how about a yuloh?

Take a look at this article - I'm sure an engineer of your advanced capability could knock one up in no time. Would be great for ditch-crawling.

did think of that - but I would have to invent a new KTL woodworkers toolkit in order to make it

having sold 500 sets of the KTL Toolkit (TM) to those suckers over on scuttlebutt my tool pixies have been worked off their pointy little feet and they need a bit of a rest

I also want something a bit stiffer as it has to be used as a pusher and fender offer as well as a scull - and I love the shape and look of a traditional oar

I am sure I shall eventually stumble across just the right thing as long as I can keep stumbling

I don't know if they are still there but years ago there used to be a place near Southampton that sold redundant ship's lifeboats etc. That's all I can remember but maybe someone else knows of them.

ps if you do track them down please let me know because I used to be fond of those hard biscuits they used to put in lifeboat rations (in sealed tins) and I wouldn't mind buying some.

I acquired a long oar with my boat which has a rowlock on the transom.

It was made out of a windsurfer mast with a flat canoe blade fitted to the end simply by pushing the mast into the socket and securing it with a couple of self tappers. In my case the mast had been cut in three with each section inserted inside the other so that it collapsed to about 1m long for storage and extended to about 2.5 metre in use.

Using a large oar on the stern whilst trying to reverse a recalcitrant boat using the outboard and rudder made life interesting.

Paddle broke and I yet to source a replacement

I was about to get excited about what a great plan you had hatched when you revealed that it had broken

having said that - I do have a bit of a broken topper mast and a canoe paddle

although a lovely wooden sweep would be a much nicer thing to look at since I am going to have to live with it in the cockpit

Call in to any boatyard, maybe in some hidden corner they will have one,I found mine in Lallows in Cowes, about 12foot provided plenty of power for my 28 footer.

Questions, questions

How do you use it? Over the stern or on one side? Where do you stow it when not in use?

Do it with a Pole !

Had you thought of using a 'punt' instead.... a'la Charlie Stock....8ft bamboo pole...with possibly a small 'blade' attached for the 'deeper' moments....just a thought?

PS:KTL toolkit arrived this morning but seems to be missing the bottle of genuine 'slug bilge water' designed to keep the ..errrr...'tools'.... in optimum condition, please advise.

On a personal note ...In order to boost sales I have immediately available a supply of genuine 1984 'Walls" ice cream cartons in which to store the set, this obviously being the container of choice for most serious boat enthusiasts.
Minimum Qty 5, Max Qty 12....I mean how much ice cream can one bloke eat....note to self....must clear freezer out more often!

BTW, Recently I have noticed a general preponderance by 'certain' parties for using spurious names and 'nomes des plumes' of an 'innuendo' nature...in future could all occurrences be reported to "OFFIND"...Office For Future Innuendos"....the address is ass (sic) follows...
