Apropos nothing, isn't it weird seeing your old boats on youtube? I stumbled across this just now - Match 1 minus radar mast and bimini being loaded onto a lorry in Sweden, I guess to go to her winder storage shed. I recognised her just from the first youtube frame!

jfm, please forgive me. My only excuse is that I was half working and half browsing. But, one of the youtube links onwards from that one of Match 1 had a chap sat in the driver's seat who I thought was you. So, I clicked on the link and it turned out to be...Dave Marsh.

Blimmin' rubbishy spex, that's what it must be.

Ahem... :o

That scared the hell out of me !
I have seen to many of those vids go wrong on you tube !
Must be good to see that her gel coat is still blinging, I would be pleased to see my old boat as shinny as when I had her.

Agreed - but it can also be a little sad to see your old boat. Here is a vid of my last boat (Mitchell 31) I sold September 2012 - the new owner had an unfortunate accident on his 1st commercial trip out - passengers were taken off safely.. but what amazes me is that the engine and electrics continued running even though they must have been underwater.

What a fascinating video and story. Is she operational again now?

Without wishing to be unduly nosy was that the boat you bought a couple of years ago and discussed on here or was that another Mitchell 31?

She was a great looking boat, saw her a few times before the near sinking. Was talking to the chap who bought her from you just a few weeks ago, she's still in the Dart, an insurance write off but has been sold locally to someone who's now restoring her.

Beg for mercy BJB. You're dead!
:D :D

Having spent part of this morning trying to make someone stop spoofing and actually give me a set of facts to justify why the CGS doesn't apply to a particular investment a death threat is a welcome relief. ;) ;)

why the CGS doesn't apply to a particular investment
LOL, R U considering a Learjet, BJB?
On a separate note, am I alone in thinking that the hull windows on M1, with normal portholes in the VIP cabin, were more tolerable from an aesthetic viewpoint than in M2?
I'm guilty as charged for not liking hull windows anyway, though I accept that they might improve the internal "feeling".
But I'm now just talking of the overall exterior design.

For what it is worth, to me M1 hull looks dated compared with M2, as most boats today are coming with the large, square hull windows, and it is what we expect to see. However, they dont always look coherent. Styling is something that needs the test of time, as some designs look a bit odd initially, but remain contemporary, while some look odd after a period of time. I am one of the few that really liked the styling direction that Sealine took over the last 5 or 6 years, which ultimately did not make them a commercial success, although the failure is probably more down to other factors.

However, I really get that large hull windows make for better interior light, and add to the feeling of space, so what JFM did with M2 works well.

+1
I love what they give you internally. From looking around, it seems only Riva have come close to getting hull windows right (IMHO) and only then because they have put them in a darker hull

I saw a couple of them recently; one in PV, one in Menton/Garavan. I looked closely and saw that the one in Menton had a large flush bonded window but behind it were 3 traditional portholes, which made me wonder whether Riva don't trust bonded windows (or perhaps their customer).

It's all down to different tastes however and of course, many people love them (and it's only those with the cash to buy, that the manufacturers need to persuade). Who is to say I am right. Only me perhaps ;-) .

Haha, no, it is a piece of UK VAT jargon that applies to real estate. Capital Goods Scheme. Seriously dull, and I sympathise with BJB for having to think about it. Death might be more fun

Yep! :D :D :D
Yeah, I knew what CGS stands for. But I read somewhere an article debating its application (or not, hence my question) for private jets.

Re. hull windows, hey, your vote doesn't count! :)
Maybe we could arrange a poll, and see what the consensus on this matter is, between M1, M2 or a Sq78 with no windows at all.
Again, I'm only talking about the exterior elegance.
As I said, I accept that most folks like the interior feeling, but that's a different matter altogether.

MapisM, I think you need to let this one go. What you're proposing is basically a poll to try and prove that jfm's boat doesn't look nice. This isn't a very friendly suggestion to make - so don't make it.

Cheers

I thought it was nice to hear some words in my native language in the M1-vid, although I must confess it was almost not understandable since they were uttered in a very wide southern Swedish accent... ;)

Naah, why do you think so, J?
Show me where I ever said that M2 isn't nice. She sure is, and much nicer than my own boat anyway.
But what's wrong (or unfriendly) in debating which of various alternatives look niceR on the same hull?
Mind, not that I'm loosing my sleep over this matter. It just (re-)popped to my mind looking at the video.

I like the approach, MM. I did mention an investment and I always thought planes, like boats, only fitted that description under the category of "bad investment", albeit beautiful and the source of endless joy etc. ;)

Since when did a poll on here prove anything beyond this forum?

:-)

... which is in the public domain. My point is that the only boat that has M2's configuration of hull windows is M2 - and therefore the poll becomes a judgement about M2 specifically. Plus, as a general rule, I really don't like forumites who openly criticise other forumites boats. I just don't think it is the done thing.

Cheers
Jimmy
