What can one do to improve security on boats? I have noticed, as a newcomer, that security seems to be a long way down the list of priorities compared to say houses or cars. And these boats cost the same!!!
Starting with attachment to a mooring for one.
Then starting the engine.
Then breaking into the cabin.
Recovery of a vessel is another issue when a similar boat is found elsewhere under suspicious circumstances.
I know insurance covers most of this but it's not the same is it...your boats been 'nicked'!!!
I intend to do the following and would appreciate advice:
1. Heavy chain to the mooring to prevent opportunists from slipping the warp normally. [I know it won't stop a bolt cropper].
2. Engine immobiliser (fuel and or electrical).
3. Datatag the boat for recovery purposes. [ Have recently received a £30 pack from datatag which includes transponders/75 micro dots with permanent adhesive to attach to all things valuable. A holographic sticker telling crooks that the boat is tagged].
Better than nothing, eh?
What about a lockable fuel cap...anyone know of such a device. Stops people pouring seawater into your fuel should they decide to be vandalistic...
