I've just been told by the manager of one of the marinas on the Hamble that they have had quite a few tenders and outboards actually stolen off their pontoons in the last couple of years -- and even one tender stolen off the davits of a yacht (!) kept in the marina.

Yikes! I didn't know the situation was that bad!

If it's that bad in marinas, then what is the situation on moorings in the river?! I'm wondering whether I should fit an intrusion alarm and lock my dinghy into my davits.

I would hope that the local scrotes would find nicking stuff from those that can afford a marina berth to be more profitable than cruising the river. And they don't even get their feet wet!

Rob.

Yes, but the marinas theoretically have security -- theoretically increasing the scrotes' risk of getting caught. But taking down a dinghy out of someone's davits!!! That is something. Obviously some scrotes are not worried at all about marina security guards.

The Hamble River has a police launch patrol based at Hamble Point and does a regular check of the river as well as the Harbourmasters' launches.

The number of large outboard Motors left on their boats in the river seem to me to be obvious targets for theft, but amazingly, are untouched throughout the year.

The most recent thefts occurred at Netley where several masts were the targets, and Police and Harbourmaster's warnings issued to the Hamble sailing clubs regarding this aspect.I'm not aware of any thefts from our club but am' touching wood'.
