I want to place a small security camera on my boat just to record anything that happens when we are away. I don't want networking via WiFi or SIM just to record on a SD card. Ideally it would be battery operated. Any suggestions?

May be something like this:-
Caméra WIFI sur batterie EZVIZ BC1C 4K pro avec panneau solaire

You will have to buy the SD card separately.
It has AI so can be set up to record when something "interesting" is happening in certain part of the field of view.

It sounds as though a trail camera would do the trick - the cheaper ones are battery operated and record only locally.

I used a wild life camera (trail camera)when I was concerned about someone who may have wanted to make an unauthorised entry into my boat. Triggered by an Infrared bean with an infrared flash. 6 aa batteries and an SD card, it lasted weeks.

I just fitted a Tapo camera a couple of weeks ago, £17.99 from Argos, on offer. Takes an SD card, no subscription needed and will record locally. Runs from 9V, mines running from the boats DC system via a cheap DC-DC converter. Although the OP said he doesn't want/need it, ours connects to the internet via the onboard router (no SIM) and marina wifi so we would get an alert on our phones if anyone went onboard.

Blink cameras are about £22, run from USB but need additional kit to record.

Similar set-up but with Reolink, battery camera that lasts at least a month, so no need for the DC converter ie. Recharges when on shore power (via usb), furthermore some have flood light which is useful for engine bay installation and remote monitoring whether onboard or at home. Amazon do regular discounts.

Food for thought: It might not be effective if someone gets onboard to steal stuff, notices the camera, opens the SD card slot and removes the card/cam. So, unless you hide or secure the camera it might not be suitable.

This is probably the main argument/benefit for having one that stores recordings over a network to somewhere the memory card/disc is less likely to be removed. However, like you I want a stand alone without network.
