Securing outboard to yacht.

Not sure that using letter punches on the flywheel would be a good idea if it contains the magnets for electricity generation. Yer could lose lot of the magnetty stuff like that.

Personally, I'd take it off and hide it if I were mooring somewhere quiet. Failing that, use all the tricks to make it look worse than the one on the boat next-door. An old dog blanket over it, tied off with cheap faded farmer string. Unclip your decent prop and bung one with a missing blade on. Thieves are stupid.

I used the above when I worked in central London. Had a 'pull-out' stereo mounting. Used my (then) £600 Blaupunkt stereo in it. When I parked, I'd put it under the driver's seat and replace it with the basic Philips that came with the car. Fooled them all. Until the day I forgot to swap them. Feckers.

[/ QUOTE ] Needs to be done gently. I have a small set of puches so they did not need to much wellie with the hammer. It still works ok anyway. I was more concerned about mechanical damage.
I would not think engraving would cause any problems so perhaps thats a better idea
