securing liferaft against theft?

Do people switch the quick release clip for a lock when on there pontoon mooring if not in a marina or do they add additional chains? What's to stop someone coming along and slashing the liferaft strap and pinching £600 worth of liferaft?

Or do people lift the heavy thing inside everytime they moor?

Just wondered what was advisable?

we stick a padlock through the quick release clip (ours has an eyelet specially for the task), to stop it coming undone.... its now part of our routine for getting the boat ready for sea, or putting her to bed after a trip to unlock/lock

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and have reached the conclusion that if anyone wants something attached to the outside of the boat, they will have it, one way or another.

I will be using a small padlock on the strap, and some wire or chain that I bought to secure the dinghy in Syracusa.

Hopefully, the weight of the thing will discourage most thieving scroats, but you never know.

small padlock with wire strop - hopefully discourages casual theft and keep insurance co happy I've taken reasonable steps to secure - but agree if someone is serious about stealing it they can of course cut the wire relatively easily.
