Second hand market must be DIRE

Well at moment if all else fails I am thinking of putting my old wooden boat up on e bay for 99p starting bid-why because the £5000 it cost me over 20 years ago is nothing to loose compared with the £40,000 plus I have lost in car value over the same period.Consider the cost of keeping a boat in a yard-perhaps several thousand pounds a year etc etc and selling for a few hundred or low thousands can be appealing.

Why would you want a radar on a lake boat?

A22 a 'lake boat'? SeaJet will be along to challenge that one...... :)

And yes, the second hand market is dire: there's some real bargains to be had for anyone who has the money. Decent boats gong for silly money by owners forced to cut their losses. Empty moorings where there were waiting lists, marinas holding open days in a desperate attempt to fill empty berths. Boat storage yards with many boats never launched this year. Yes the situation is bad, and likely to get a lot worse before we get through.

There's an Achilles 24 on ebay at the moment that I looked at four years ago before buying the one I did. Then it was for sale, through a broker, at over £3k. Now it'll be lucky to reach £1k. I didn't think it was overpriced when I first saw it, and I paid a bit more than that for mine which was in better condition, plus I wanted a triple keel.

Am almost tempted to pick it up as a bargain, strip it out and use it purely for club racing, whilst my other one is kept for cruising and comfort. Not sure I want to pay two sets of mooring fees though.

That's funny. I dropped into Titchmarsh Marina last Sunday week to have a look at that boat as it was on their website. When we got there the boat was nowhere to be found and the broker didn't know where it was. I left my email address as requested and he said he would get back to me - of course he didn't. Now it pops up on ebay!

He has left the cabin open for viewing!

Hope someone doesnt help themselves to the fenders and Origo stove.

There must be a business potential for Boat breaking just for spares and scrap metal.

Up to £252 now for Radar, Fenders, Origo stove, and a lake boat thrown in!

Just noticed this thread; originally had it up for £4500 with the brokers at Titchmarsh, then when they started charging me for storage after three months removed some of the more expensive extras and had it at £2000 on Apollo Duck. Quite a few looked during July/August, but still no offers, so put it on EBay with no reserve. The boat itself is on the hardstanding, turn right at the gate, walk past the brokers, and keep walking, it's behind a S& S in a big yellow tent (although as the auction is up tomorrow this information is too late).
Bit of a shame as in last two years refurbished radar, new upholstery, new running & standing rigging etc, but if nobody is buying what else is there to do? As the previous poster noted, the keel itself must have quite a bit of value just as scrap metal.

Is the keel bulb lead as my brother scrapped a 20 footer that had ton of lead in one block? I think he got about £850 for it and a bit more for the stainless keel bolts, aluminium mast and boom...
I had a nice return of £800

have you pmd Tamlin just seen his earlier post?

My first broker commmision is a virtual pint please!
