We HAD Yot Grot in Lymington ....

Wot happened to Yot Grot?

Not being a native of those parts, I only went there twice, but it was the only place in Lymington worth visiting?

Woodbridge has Seedy Andy's but it's not on the same scale for chandlery (world class selection of fixer-upper boats, though!)

A little forethought and planning, plus attendance at a couple of these, will bring you riches and gadgets far beyond the avarices of the swindleries.....

http://www.boatjumbleassociation.co.uk/

Regular snooping here:-

www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/

Copies of All at Sea are helpful, and :-

Boats for Sale under £20000 is a rich source particularly of Engines.

If you are close to the sea anyway try the local free ads, and LOOT.

And my piece de resistance..... The skips of every major marina contain the most fantastic assortment of goodies that people simply throw away. That would include a working 25 gallon calorifier, a 4hp Johnson outboard (working within the hour), Stainless rigging converted to jackstay use on my little boat. Last week 3/4 litre of Bilgex tossed in there. I could go on. Its criminal.

Ebay ..... mmmmmmmm

Haviung watched so many bits and pieces go for more than new in some cases as well as more than local Free-ads - I am not so sure about Ebay ..... seems that some people get caught up in bidding for bidding sake and finally end up paying more.

I'm looking for the rummage bins !! I go to jumbles when in UK .... but what I'm thinking of is maybe a place that alos has on-line that you can order from as well .... not only the Yot Grots of the world ....

just what i need, at the moment i am looking for some boat bits, and have found that things like stanchions and bases, from old pattern types are no longer sold and are very hard to find, i am in the process of trying to source some bits for my boat since i had been hit whilst being moored up in a marina. Have been on the phone for about a week ringing all sorts of places and chandleries, boatyards, but with the company going out of business about 4/5 years ago, and the bits for the boat about 20 years old , having a great deal of problems trying to match bits...

i will be posting on the wanted list for stanchion base and post as soon as i can figure out how to post a pic to it, i can post a pic to email but have not succeeded on the forum yet.... watch this space, and anyone have any sowester stanchion bases with buttress plus a tapered post, i would be interested in hearing from you, and i could then post pics of type of base and post i require....
