I seem to remember that, although it will take the standard RJ45 connector, the locking tab does not engage, so you may need to come up with an alternative way of ensuring that the plug stays in the socket.
 
I use a standard TP-link 8-port ethernet switch on board.. It was one that used a 12v power cube so was easy to power up.

Being under a tenner it is easy (and light) to carry a spare.

There is also an easy way of crimping a standard RJ45 (ethernet) plug onto a Lowrance yellow ethernet cable and in future you could link up Lowrance/Simrad/B&G radar and equipment.

Using this standard ethernet switch also makes it easy to connect up a laptop and display navigation and radar pictures (if you have an ethernet connected radar).
