Please bear with me ... I don't really know what I am talking about here and I suspect I have an 'operator error' rather than an equipment error.

I have a Raytheon RC520 plotter and a Raymarine RN300 GPS.

From memory, I am pretty sure that any routes or waypoints I entered on the RC520 would appear on the RN300. I guess this was via Seatalk as I have no recollection of needing to 'transfer' them.

Couple of months ago I had the RN300 firmware updated by a Raymarine dealer. This returned the unit to the factory default settings.

Since then neither unit displays routes or waypoints entered on the other one. They seem to share all other seatalk data. However, if I enter a waypoint on the plotter and then press goto it does appear on the RN300 as the waypoint being followed.

The manual says 'In an integrated system, when a route is made current on any SeaTalk equipment it is sent to all SeaTalk instruments, including this chartplotter'.

This where something is wrong as it doesn't happen for me.

Any help, advice or suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks

Alan

The GPS head may have reverted to "master" mode instead of repeater. I seem to remember that only one unit can be the master and all others must be repeaters...?

Good thought, Simon, but when I change the RN300 settings for master from 'yes' to 'no' it no longer receives the incoming GPS signal. So it must need to be the master to do that.

If both units are properly connected by Seatalk, a route when made active on one unit should also become the active route on the other unit, as yours used to do. I have had a RN300 and RC320 both with latest firmware and not had a problem when connected to a RL70CRC plotter by Seatalk. So I can only conclude you should check your Seatalk connectors are pushed fully home and if that doesn't change things, contact Raymarine.

Hmmm...on a slightly different tack, I have a RC320 and a Pathfinder Radar - connected the Seatalk cable and get nothing on the radar (course data setting). Am I doing something wrong - I set up the Radar to "accept" Seatalk input but display remains blank! Tried Raytheon - they are suggesting fitting a ferrite! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If your Pathfinder unit is only a radar, I beleive it will only show a "lolipop" of the current waypoint on the RC320 on the radar display. I don't usually use my RC320 as a plotter so haven't checked fully how it interacts with a Pathfinder radar display but suspect as the RC320 is not a Pathfinder series device, it will only provide the data for a waypoint "lolipop". I'll have a try sometime over the next week on the boat and see, if I remember.
