In the November issue of PBO the Johnlite Searchguard was picked out as a best buy. It is priced at £24.95 in sailing outlets but I was pleased to find the same light in Argos for £9.99!! If you are looking for a searchlight this is a bargain.

is that run off your 12v supply or rechargeable?

i bought the YM 'best buy' a couple of years ago but it stopped working after about a year. when i took it apart the switch was made of non-stainless steel and had totally disintegrated.

i now have a rechargeable with 2 x 100w bulbs that will light the dark side of the moon but needs 2 hands to lift. i wonder how long that will last.

i wonder if we can pressure the mags into checking for rustable components when they do these tests.

It is a sealed lead acid battery that is rechargeable from the 12V supply but also via the mains charger that comes with it. It is 1 million candle power and wow does it mean it. I have no idea about the interior but it looks ruggedly built apart from the switch lever which is a bit vulnerable maybe. You are right that the mag tests could be a bit more thorough at times but at least we get some idea of what we are letting ourselves in for!

a very usefull site for rechargable batts, smart cards ect.
del is a bit slow as they export from the C.Islands, postage is very little even though the consignment could arrive over a few days in a number of packages.
really worth a look.
