Am I allowed to have my R/C searchlight on when I am motoring along in the Solent at Night time? I need it on really because it does a superb job of lighting up lobster pots e.t.c especially when I am driving/sailing/controlling/skippering from downstairs.
The only reason I can see that would prevent me from having it on is that people would not recoginse me as a Mobo cos' I would have 2 white lights at the front.

Well, you would probably be blinding others coming in the opp direction. Not a good idea IMHO, except to switch it on for a second or two now and then. It's illegal this side of the pond to run at night w/spotlight on, tho' many do it.

Take it from me, it WILL destroy your night vision. Been there done that and hit the cardinal mark!

I must be a rare case because it doesn't seem to destroy my night vision and I can see a lot more with it on than off.
As anybody looked at my:

Re: You mean the moosy site!

Sing out for the mud and sing out for the ooze
the life of the frog is the life you should choose
sing out for the mud and sing out for the bog
it's ever so jolly just being a frog

frog frog frog (ribbit)
frog frog frog (ribbit)

We love the old mud hole, we sit and we soak,
The feeling's so good that we've just gotta croak,
The muck and the mire, the swamp and the slime,
The life of a frog is a wonderful time

Time, time, time (ribbit)
Time, time, time (ribbit)

Oh, what can compare
with a day in the swamp?
the snakes and the spiders
the cold and the damp (the damp)

we're fond of the pond
be it eptide or flood
I love the old swamp
cause there's mud in my blood

blood blood blood (ribbit)
blood blood blood (ribbit)

it's ever so jolly
it's ever so jolly
it's ever so jolly
just being a froooooooooooooog!

If I had my way I would make people take a test before allowing them to fit a searchlight. These should NEVER be used except in extreme circumstances such as searching for someone in the water or similar. Certainly they destroy night vision, blind others, cause reflections from both the sea and the mist you cannot see but is there, the list is endless. In short... only a complete Twat switches them on as a matter of course.

Re: You mean the moosy site!

a) Frogs - Frog legs are good. Hunt them
b) Moose - Antlers look good over fireplace (and LJS wants some steaks). Hunt them
c) Me - You're a Moose, see b)

I only ever used mine once. Switched it on to look at sumate. Then went up fly bridge to take the boat into the marina. Button for s light didn't work up there. So followed a yatch in, with them swathed in blinding light. I felt a bit of a chump!!

The only time a feel a need to use it is when I am coming back from somewhere at night, around the entrance to Chichester there are loads of lobster pots and the Search Light DOES light them up really well. I don't just go tearing through the Solent with it on for the sake of it. Only when I really need it, and it is really good.
