I was wondering if anyone knows of a place on the internet that I can search for a boat for sale across many existing boat sites? What I mean is I would like to enter a search, let's say Seamaster and the results returned are all relevent adverts from the main boats for sale websites.
This would save me going to each of the websites and putting in the same search.

This would save me time and I would get the results I need all in the one place.

What do you think?
Is this a good idea?
Do you know of anywhere I could find something like this?

Many thanks

Martin

Thanks Richard, my dutch is not that good either. Kawasaki, I am looking for a multi hull to purchase and having looked across most of the larger boat sales websites and many of the smaller ones I thought it would be easier to keep all the boats I am interested in in one location so if there was a website that searched across all the main websites I could access all details from one site. At the moment I have saved some boats in a favorites list on some websites and others are in my bookmarks in my browser. I wanted to know if there was a website that I could save all the different boats in a central location.

I thought this would be a good idea and if their is nothing already out there then I might look into providing such a service myself. Would it be something that others would find useful? Is there something already available? That is really my question.

Thanks for your replies, can anyone else help?

Regards

Martin

I produce software for Yacht Brokers (www.forumboats.com) that can export information to any website providing the webmasters cooperate. I am not interested in producing web based software myself but I agree that there is a need as you detail. I think Google should do this, but they don’t seem to be interested. I will be very interested to know if you get any further than the posts on this forum. George.

Thanks for your reply George. Forum Boats looks very good and is a good start finding boats offered by brokers so I will have a search on that.

I think it would be a good idea having a web based search as a central location but I am not having much luck finding something like this.

Moodysailor, thanks for your search suggestion, I have been doing searches like you suggest with some reasonable results but it can be a bit hit and miss using google. I was looking for something that will pick up boat classified ads so I can get listings of boats offered for sale by both brokers and private sellers.

Hi Talbot,
I'm looking for a Heavenly Twins HT27 one of the later ones with "stoop-thru" passage in stbd hull. I have found a few of the older ones but I really what a HT27.

Erwin, thanks for the information on that website. I will keep an eye on it and see if it comes back online soon.

Michael, I agree that the Boats For Sale link on the YBW site is good and I do use it. I thought it would be useful to have results of a search across multiple boat sites all on one page with a easy way to save the ones that I'm interested in to a favorites list or something like that. I guess I'm looking for something like a big list of boat classified ad links of all matching boats from my search that I can simply click on the link and get taken to the full advert on the website that the advert is placed on. Then I could search for and manage everything from the one website.

Maybe I am asking to much? What do you think?

Thanks for the info on the Prout Owners Association forum.

Regards

Martin

Funnily enough I was thinking sort of along these lines the other day.

What I want is a search engine that searches only the websites in my Favourites list and when I find a new Website I can just add it to MY search engine.

The idea being that if I want to search for a Contessa I don't have to do a Google / Yahoo! with words to try and exclude websites that are either not relevent (I am after a Boat not a member of the aristocracy! - and my favourites reflect this!) or have been paid for and / or are just full of cr#p. (my pet hate are listings websites!, in theory no problem but the contents tend to get filled with b#llocks from having to promote sh#t to pay the bills - and it sounds like this is what you are intending to create, effectively I guess I want my own version over which I have total editorial control, cos' I don't have to include sh#te to pay any bills!).

The thinking was that as I do tend to go to websites I find useful / reliable / trust more than others it make sense to search these. But, maybe MY Search engine could also do a parallel seach on Google / Yahoo! with their top 10 as comparisons.

Go on folks, tell me this already exists! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

What I wanted really was one place where I could search multiple sites for listed boats and have them all displayed in the one place. Saving boats that are of interest in that one site so I could easily find them again without going to all the other sites individually.
Would save me a lot of time and keep things organized and easy to find again.

I had a look at the google custom search and it looks good. It's a shame you can not save individual search results in some sort for favorites, that would great.

Why not just save individual results in a separate folder in your Favourites? Or, why not save them on your hard disk as web pages?
