Ponta Delgada MRCC is coordinating the search for a missing sailboat, Oceanis 46-47ft, Italian flag, 2 experienced crew onboard, en route from the Azores towards Gibraltar. Pictures show a white hull.
MRCC received an epirb message two days ago from 37-35N, 17-57W, about 330M east of Sao Miguel; while searching the area, they found some flotsam and some lifejackets, though they could not ascertain if they belonged to the missing yacht.
The crew had frequent satellite communications with land, though no contact either way has been made since the epirb activation.
Searching is still underway by naval and air forces, together with some commercial traffic.
I had a look at the weather archives and there was nothing significant on the area for May 1-2.
.
Being a frequently used route this season, please relay if you know anyone sailing around there.

Leaving Horta Sunday will be in that area around Tuesday. Position noted and crew briefed to keep look.

Thank you CS !

I will post here if any (hopefully good) news.

Wednesdays grib.

Looks OK, anything else is pure conjecture. Hoping for a good outcome despite it looking bad for them right now.

Yesterday, end of search for the Navy units, both Italian and Portuguese ships resumed their ordinary missions.

Further investigations showed the lifejackets found floating near the epirb position were indeed related to the boat (the registration number written onto them was the owner's previous boat reg number).
