Hi all, i have been searching for some information, but have been able to come up with anything useful so i'll ask the educated masses my self.

I am currently in Indonesia and will be here for a couple of years more, when i will be returning to europe. Most of my childhood was spent on a moody 36, and i have always said that one day i will live water side. I however am willing to put up with the cost of fuel etc to go motor. Currently my plan is to buy an older flybridge (ie princess 388) and cruse it from Jakarta to Spain. having spent some time mapping this out i do realise how much of an epic journey this is. ( around 11,500 miles)

problems, 1 i have been land locked for a few years, and will be retaking the due courses.
2, finding info on older sea worthy flybridge boats, i'm looking for a boat large enough to live and work on (internet based company) but small enough to handle solo. (in a much comefort as possible).
3, once found i guess that a lot of renovation will be required, and with the huge amount of inventory out there and a list of needs, wants and must haves is proving tough to put together so any help would be apperciated.

I have a long enough time to be properly prepared and educated but that trip has got to start soon, well i guess that even this is a step in the right direction.

thanks for any input anyone cares to share

stay safe and aware

wow what a trip, my first thoughts are that a trip of this magnitude would be better done in a semi or even displacement hull,a planning boat i think would use far too much fuel&so restrict the distance you could travel between legs,i would look at nelson type hulls.any more thoughts&i will let you know.ps sounds like a fantastic adventure, when do WE start, regards m m1.

I agree with MM1, you need to be looking at displacement boats with a decent range, (I am not sure you always find fuel at each stop) and decent consumption.

You should be looking for 2 maybe 3 or more mpg and large fuel tanks so you have a range of 1000+ miles.

A Princess 388 will I guess be less than 1 mpg and a range of 200 miles?

Sounds a fantastic adventure, so don't want to be negative, but is that trip even possible in a boat with 300 miles range, or even 600 miles if you add extra fuel tanks? I don't have an atlas with me, but how do you even get past Burma? Then don't you have to pass Iran, and that's before you fight off the pirates in the Gulf of Aden.

I'd be interested to know your route.

Boatwise, i'd get a sailing yacht.

I'm missing the reasons for not purchasing a Princess 388 directly in the Med (saving a lot of money btw), rather than cruising the coasts of Somalia.
Unless you see such thrill as part of the fun, of course.

Agree, Doing that trip in a Princess 38 is not a thrill, it's suicidal. Go with the Nordhaven, you actually might make it...barring the pirates!
