I would be interested in the views of anyone who owns or has owned a Sea Ray 270 Sundancer. I'm looking at a 1999 boat with twin 4.3 litre engines (420 hours). Any feedback good or bad would be welcome.
We have one in our "circle" of boating friends but it is a single 428 cu in motor on Mercruiser with twin duo props. A little thirsty but that's of course of no interest to you, you're looking to have two of them!! Don't know if the consumption will be any good. Slips along happily at 25 knots though, good for quick trips.
Space wise the boat is nice, well appointed and comfortable. Depending on how tall you are (I'm 6"4"), I found the double bed under the cockpit a little short but otherwise accommodations are good.
Also not sure if they're always the same but the little stove runs on denatured alchohol which we found in New Zealand hard to find. Mostly use a BBQ now and use the stove when hooked up to shore power.
The boat rides rough water well and we've been out in some tough stuff and never been nervous of the boat's ability to handle the conditions.
The water cooled exhaust manifolds on the engines will need to be inspected for leaks. They rot out very quickly due to their poor design. They are expensive to replace, and can write off the engines if they leak un-noticed.
Allow a reduction in the purchase price to take them apart, clean them and refit with new gaskets to be on the safe side.
Other than that, their quite good engines, but as others have said, they do like their fuel!
