Hi I wonder if anyone can assist?

I am thinking of selling my Sealine 215 Envoy (V6 petrol) and buying a Searay 250 Sundancer diesel that is advertised in Cardiff.
Could anyone offer any insight into this boat, whats she like at sea or how spacious or comfortable she may be?
Any info gratefully recieved and a free pint for the best!

Thanks

Iain

if it is the advert is over 18months old so they aren't shifting it too fast!

looks reasonably priced assuming it's in good nick mechanically and they end up taking about 23k

overall Searays have always been the pretty solid marque in the Brunswick stable and the engine looks reasonably matched to the boat size etc

Hi,

Whilst not a 250 i can give you some insight into my 260 Sundancer which I've had for just over a year.

I spent a great deal of time looking for the right 25' ish sports cruiser and probably saw every model available. I had less than £30k to spend and had already decided that the only diesels available at the time were too old or too slow. Therefore, petrol was the choice and I don't regret it as i was expecting the large fuel bills.

My 260 is a 2001 year, with one previous owner and a UK supplied boat. I love it! My wife and two girls fit in perfectly and although we could use more space, this will be a never ending claim, regardless of boat size, I fear!

I think she handles well at sea and have been out in some conditions I wouldn't necessarily choose to go out in again! However the boat handled well and never, ever felt unsafe.

I had my heart set on a 240 but the 260 came along and offered a more cruising spec than sportsboat spec. Not sure where the 250 fits in the SeaRay stable at the time?

The build quality seems very good and there are no bits falling off. A friend also has a '96 240 and his too in great condition.
Parts are easy but would suggest importing rather than going to Marina MarbellaUK (replacement stove £365 or £170 for a CE marked import)

Is the Cardiff boat re-engined? The only thing I would say is the extra couple of feet on the bow will needlessly add to mooring costs.

Feel free to contact me if you want more info, or try SeaRay website with useful archive where all original brochures and spec sheets are available for download

Good luck

Adam

Yes. thats the one I was looking at. 1996 diesel, not sure if it has been re-engineed as the broker has not yet come back to me.
Thanks all for your input so far ......... Iain

Very little I think!

Up to 2000 or so the 240's were slightly less than 24', then grew to 26' LOA with an extended rather than integrated swim platform. Cockpit layout got better at this point too.

The 250 appears to be slightly longer but is looking older now. Have a look at the archives on their website and you'll spot the layout and spec differences. I would also have a look at some 240's/260's to see the difference.

It's a much debated subject but must you have diesel? For £25k you'd easily get a post 2000 240 petrol. Toss up between newer boat or cheaper running. I'm afraid the vanity got to me when I made the choice. Mind you, the only Sea Ray's with diesels I saw were Kad32's and very sluggish.

On final thing, is this a UK boat or US import?

at risk of counding like huge geek, have established the following on searay website:

250 DA (code for sundancer) is 24'7 and made until 98
240 DA is 23'6 and made from 1996
240 DA upgraded in 2000 and now 24' with 2' swim platform ext to 26' LOA
260 DA made from 1999 and 26' plus the extra 2'

Looks like Sea Ray made 2 very similar boats 240/250 for 2 years unitl the 250 stopped production and the 260 started.

But then there's the 270.......

Hope this helps!!
