Hi guys,

I bought a 2001 Searay Sundancer 240 three month ago and whatused to happen was when the ignition switch was turned the warning buzzers would kick in, some gauges would move and then when the key was turned further the starter would engage and the engine would start.

On a couple of occasions when you turn the key NOTHING happens even though there is plenty of power in new Yuasa batteries -ie blowers, radios, stereo, chart plotter etc works perfectly and then all of a sudden you play with the key and the buzzers sound and you can start the engine (Mercrusier 5.0 v8) easily. It is is then fine for the rest of the day.

I’m not happy with this and think it’s the switch at fault - does anyone agree with me or think it’s something else - or how difficult is it just to change the switch?

Thanks

If it is under warranty get the seller to replace, they have a series of copper contacts inside them which are all sprung, as they age they lose their spring and many break their contact ends off.

Get to the back of the switch and test continuity in all positions, no doubt you will find a badly connecting contact.

Look at automotive electrical suppliers and replacements are cheap, you do need to know how many positions your switch has and get a replacement, and many suppliers also do commercial versions for lorries which are a couple of £££s more.
