i am thinking of setting up an information website about the Searanger 448 or 48/50 boats . I have gained a lot of information on parts etc since owning mine and also through friendship with an ex-director of the factory. We dont have exact numbers of boats built ( 9 or possibly 11) so here are the ones I know of and wondered if anyone could add to this list ? Name and port would be good and PM me if you prefer not to make it public knowledge.

Ancaster IV - Ardrossan
Larkspur - Southampton ??
lysander - ??
Nuthatch -??
Recoil - Greece heading for Ireland possibly ?
Bootlegger- Kip

There is a Lysander in Lymington but she was built by Alden Yachts in Rhode Island.

Larkspur is in Lymington - Berthon

Artic Owl? Only been in that ownership a couple of years then.

I visted Mr Magoo (ex.. Artic Owl) in person last week when we were over in Guernsey on Bootlegger. Sadly, the owner died at Christmas and probate has only just come through, hence the sale.

She is a truly superb looking boat. I had a good poke around (thanks to the kindness of the broker who knew I wasn't buying!) to see what improvements had been made over ours. She is a twin cabin version, with the lower galley where our twin cabin is, and a dinette in the saloon to port. Beautifully finished, and in excellent condition. A few tweaks here and there compared to Bootlegger but nothing major, save for the various bits of customising that the original owner would have specified.

I believe she is on at £220k which won't include the VAT. Seems a lot, but once you've realised what a boat like this offers and then try comparing it to anything else, it starts to look very good value. You wouldn't get a similar sized Hardy for that money, but having been over a few myself, I think the SeaRanger is a markedly better built boat.

SeaRanger 448 hull #2 spotted 9 December 2018 at Burseldon (RK Marine)!

Golden Wake (ex Nuthatch). Not sure whether she is there for good or just for repair. I did hear a suggestion that she was headed for Lymington post-sale, but perhaps that didn't work out.

I remember some years back when I bought my Princess 410 , she is named Steelaway , some months after I had the pleasure of meeting her previous owner Chris who had traded her in for a 448 , he named hr Recoil.
There must have been a connection with him working in the steel manufacturing industry to give his boats those names.
I think he went on to buy a 450 Broom .

I’d like to report that last week I had the pleasure of being asked to service Bootlegger at Hamble village , I can say from an engineers point of view it was a sheer delight to service with not one service item on the list that could not be changed or inspected on service , the whole operation including changing the turbo oil feed pipe on the starboard engine could all be done through the floor hatch with no necessity to lift up the floor panels.
A great design of engine room , why o why can’t they all be like that.

Hi there!
Not sure if this message board is still being used, but we own Larkspur.

We weren’t actually in Southampton, but were probably seen nearby as we were in Lymington, Berthon.

We have recently moved again and now keep Larkspur in Portland in order to enjoy the south coast a bit more!

Hi there. Owner of Bootlegger here, hull #1.

Great to hear from you - and interesting to hear that you've moved down to Portland. I did ask at Berthon once where you'd gone, to be told that you were now in Poole, so they got the direction right at least.

The article that you wrote and which was on the SeaRanger website when it was still live was an inspiration to us. Our kids now play tag and hide and seek around the boat, which we agree, wouldn't be possible on many sub-50 foot boats.

I've been trying to maintain a list of 448/50s - was Larkspur hull #4, built with TAMD74s?

We are often in Weymouth (there on Monday all being well) so hope to see you at some point.

Oh, and for those SeaRanger spotters out there (perhaps that's just me) MV Cambe appears to be up for sale again in Lefkas, Greece: Sea Ranger Yachts SEA RANGER 448 Used Boat for Sale 1997 | TheYachtMarket. Very cheap - from what I've heard, the teak decks are shot but would still be a great project for someone. I was half-tempted to buy a second as a home on the Med, but the wife says that a house move has to come first!
