So, after what seemed a lot of faffing around and soul searching I have become the new owner of a 1974 Seamaster 30 ft cruiser complete with twin tractor diesel engines (Perky 4108's) and a slightly modernised (as in IKEA showroom :nonchalance:) interior which definitely will be changed (though whoever did the slightly suspect interior did a great job with fitting double glazed windows all round).
Anyway, just got to get her trucked down from Newark to Ely in the New Year and my boat life will really start.
Oh and by the way, I have lurked on here for several months and have gleaned some great advice so....

Hello :)

Congratulations,
Bought mine the day the Falklands were invaded (thought there might be another Dunkirk!):excitement:
Fifty hours on the clock to which I added eight hundred, went to Holland a number of times and various other ports of call.
Great boats if a bit slow with the 2x Thorneycroft 60hp. Kept her close on seven years and returned a £3000 profit, happy days.

Stelican, re soundproofing (much needed as you say) I have carpeted the cockpit floor with rubber backed carpet which helps a bit (looks nice too) but some proper soundproofing stuck on the underneath of the cockpit floor panels will hopefully go a good way to quietening those two old Perkys down in that 'boom box' of an engine room.
Yes, lots of room for a 30 footer.

Problem with rubber backed carpet is that the rubber breaks up after a while and makes a dreadful mess in the engine room, better to properly sound proof the engine room with the correct stuff! It's a tough job but well worth doing.

Have you sealed the hatch with hatch seal tape (clue's in the name!) and sealed any other openings apart from the engine vents. That will make the biggest single difference until you can afford proper sound proofing sheets.
