Can someone please advise

I have an outlet on my fuel tank which not only supplies fuel for the engine there is also a connection on this which supplies fuel to the Ebespacher heater,
there appears to be two rubber seals and 5 nylon washer through which 5 screws attatch this to the main fuel connection.

I have been able to get one rubber seal ( the smaller one about 3cms) but seem unable to get the larger one which is in order of 4.5 to 5cms the larger one has 5 screws through it that attatch to the main outlet from the fuel tank.

Have tried Ebespacher and Vetus who manufactured the tank but to no avail any help greatfully recieved

Rubbish Vetus tank

My 3 year old plastic Vetus diesel tank leaks from the small white inspection hatch next to the main connector plate so I now tend not to fill the tank up to the brim. The small white screw-in inspection plug can be overtightened by hand! and offers no seal at all. The tank did this from a year old and when mentioned to the guy on the Vetus stand, an impressive display of apathy was forthcoming. Result....I won't buy another Vetus tank. PTFE tape on the plug threads cuts the leakage down a bit. Also the Main connector plate needs to regularly checked and the bolts gently tightened down as they seem to work loose with vibration.

Could be the wrong kind of seal - are you using common seals or grey seals ? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is scuttlebutt after all...

Re: Rubbish Vetus tank

Wherry

Many thanks for your replywill try to find a suitable seal and try your tip re the ptfe tape

Thanks again

I too have this problem on a new boat. The fuel sender was replaced, and leaked like a sieve, as it had not been possible to thoroughly clean and degrease the seal areas with the tank in situ and undrained.
The engineer had a second, better stab at it, and it is now down to a smear, but the smell when refuelling is noticeable for a few hours.

He used ordinary grease to create the seal between the faces, and a gasket of PTFE.

my vetus also leaked installed it looked great started to fill 10 mins later boat stinky diesel smel everywhere -- the inspection hatch leaking.. so pumped out t tank. cleaned up boat then replaced all the seals, ptfe tape all the threads that were regularly exposed to diesel and and sikaflexed all the ports on the top -- probably wrong thing to do but 3 years on was still in good shape and leak-free.
